Talkster: free unlimited (inter-)national phone calls!
« on: October 27, 2007, 03:56:37 AM »
Today I discovered this site called Talkster.com. Unlike any other similar service, they allow you to make free unlimited national or international from your land line or mobile phone.

So where's the catch then? Well, before your call, you get to hear a ten second ad. That's all.

(I haven't actually tried it yet though.)

That actually looks like a really nice service since you can use your actual phones. The number of supported countries, however, is still a bit limited. Hopefully it really takes off.

While trying it, I discovered that both you have to call a land line yourself. (Land line calls are often free these days, so that doesn't matter.) Then they connect you to your friends and they give you ten seconds to tell him/her to call his/her local Talkster number. Just stay on the line while he/she calls the phone number and finally you're good to go.

Not quite what I was looking for, but it does make calling landlines internationally free. To make a call to America, I have to dial my local Talkster phone number (a +32 land line) and the recipient of my call can dial a +1 phone number. Instead of dialing a phone number overseas, you can keep your call nearly free by using the land line.

Gizmocall is still my free phone service of choice as they ring the both of you up.
