Check this out: http://www.newzie.com/

Main screen:

You can turn the program into a news ticker:

You can search your big archive:

You can let Newzie delete all posts that are older than x amount of days:

It uses color codes to indicate how fresh a feed or post is:

You can set feed priorities and filter your feed view based on that:

And you can view some nice statistics about your feeds:

Although I like the program, I'm sticking with Thunderbird because I want to keep it simple and because it allows me to view my RSS feeds from within the same program I use to check my mail. Besides, it's a Windows-only app.

Looks cool. I am going to try it out and see how it looks. I have never found an RSS reader that really meets my needs.

I just tried that out, and I believe it is one of the best desktop feed readers that I have found. I think I'll be featuring this app soon. :)

I agree. This is a great feed reader and I am currently working on adding in all my feeds.

I actually found this RSS reader over a year ago, but I just forgot about it. :)

And from the people who brought you Newzie comes Ziepod, a podcast receiver. It's really cool, but it still requires you to install iTunes if you want their iPod functionality to work. In addition to that, it just puts your podcast files among the rest of your music (i.e. it doesn't make use of the Music > Podcasts menu). It's great for other MP3 players though, I used it in combination with - shameless plug alert! - USBsyncer before I bought my iPod.
