Improve OpenOffice start-up time significantly
« on: August 13, 2007, 04:21:21 PM »
I found this website that shows how to make OpenOffice start up much quicker. I tried it out and it really did make a huge difference for me.
How to make OpenOffice run faster
It is written for Ubuntu, but I tried it in Vista and it works just as well.

Thanks Bob! I adjusted some of those settings, but I don't like the quick starter. I hate when things preload themselves into memory on my computer.

Same here. I adjusted all of the settings except for the quickstarter and I still noticed quite a difference in the load time.

Nice, that always annoyed me with OpenOffice, I also left the quickstarter alone and noticed nice difference.  BTW works for OpenOffice in XP

Thanks Bob...I'm the same with Quickstarter...that's a no-no.

I don't need another Quickstarter, but the other tips seem to really speed up OpenOffice!
I use OpenOffice Writer to create blog posts many times a day; anything to get me along faster. O0

thanks

Interesting, do you use OOo Writer stand alone or do you use Sun Weblog Publisher?

That Sun Weblog Publisher looks pretty cool...too bad they charge for it.

Nice, starting was the only area my OOo was worse than MSOffice - but not any more! It starts almost instantly!

If you use the Base program, you will need Java turned on. Even without turning off Java off, these tweaks still give you a significant startup speed improvement.

I can't remember the last time I used Base or Access. All of my database work is done on the web now with MySQL. :)

Come on, it's only ten bucks. How long does it take you to spend that on Latte or songs or ring tones or movies? How much is your time worth? If it improves your blogging, why not use it?

It allows you to blog offline and keep around drafts to finish later or have them reviewed by others, before you post.

Well, I'm using Windows Live Writer Beta 3 that was just released, and it seems to be a great tool. And it may only be $10, but what about future upgrades? If you go with a free app then you don't have to worry about the cost of future upgrades. Not only that but Live Writer is pretty frequently updated, which is surprising since Microsoft makes it.
