Digg drops "Top Users"
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:01:18 AM »
A few days ago, Digg decided to stop publishing its Top Users list.

I personally like the move.

I think a story should be dugg based on the story itself, and not on who submits it.

Not that this will necessarily be the case now...but this move may help in that regard.

Any thoughts?

I think Digg could possibly run into the problem of poor or mediocre content because the top users were so committed to seeking out unique content.  It's not that others can't or won't, it's just that I'm not sure they will put in as much effort on a consistent basis.  I haven't really heard what top diggers are saying about this, but I imagine some of them are a little insulted that they're not going to be recognized for their effort and just leave all together.  Some of them have been on the verge of leaving Digg for a while now.

I definitely agree, a story should be Dugg based upon the story itself, but I'm just curious if/how the quality of content will change.

I definitely agree with Ashley that Digg is becoming so big that it is hard for them to control spammers and haters, but they are going to have to figure out something fast. Unfortunately for them they grew too rapidly and they didn't have time to slowly develop a system that works and is scalable as they continue to grow. I think Google just needs to buy them and throw their engineers on the job.

That will probably happen.

I'm with you on this one. I've found a lot of great websites on Del.icio.us and prefer it over Digg anytime!

Del.icio.us makes a great digg filter. The best stuff gets through to there, its edited by the masses, like digg, but without the 12 year olds and zealots

what about reddit?

Reddit is really great, and the people who use it seem to be far more mature. The thing I like about it is that they have a refreshing amount of news that is not technology related.

I always found Reddit to be a bit dull. I think its the lack of geeky stuff. I prefer that.
