You know, I've seen that program so many times discussed on other sites and I always assumed that it was shareware. I didn't think that they had a freeware version available, but it looks pretty sweet and I think I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks Javasharp!

The only other desktop notes apps that can hold a candle to EverNote is Microsoft's OneNote.

I still like EverNote better, and it's free. It even has a Firefox extension that allows you to clip notes right from your browser.

I really need a good note taking/research tool. I tried Evernote and whilst it's quite comprehensive, it's so ugly. What I want is something that integrates with my browser, other than through an extension. I would also like it to   use open standards.

My browser is firefox and I currently use scrapbook, but it's not enough. I need a non-liner, databased solution. I have tried TiddlyWiki and WikiPad, but they don't fit the bill.

Any more ideas?

Wow, I think you covered about all of the solutions that I know of. :(

I'll have to think about that one to see if I can come up with something else.

No worries Ryan (may I call you Ryan?) I've been looking for ages, and I still haven't found the perfect solution. I think it would be something like scrapbook, but with a real editor for notes. I wonder, now ff is making use of sqlite for some things, if a possibility exists for extending scrapbook, or something similar...

Yep, go ahead and call me Ryan.

Firefox does make use of sqlite so I would think that scrapbook could be extended, but the developer of the project probably isn't familiar with it (nor are many of the extension developers). Mozilla probably just needs to make it easier to interface with sqlite.

WikidPad

WikidPad is a wiki-like notebook for storing your thoughts, ideas, todo lists, contacts, or anything else you can think of to write down. What makes it different from other notepad applications is the ease with which you can cross-link your information. Links in a wiki are created by typing in WikiWords. A WikiWord is any case word (also called CamelCase) typed into the editor. TodoList or JohnDoe are example WikiWords. The term wiki means "quick" in Hawaiian, and wikis are all about quickly linking your information together. Wikis are not a new concept, in fact there are many web based wiki servers available.

I think the service is still in beta!

Looks like a pretty sweet application, too bad it doesn't have add-ons for browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer like Evernote does.

That was the reason I decided not to use WiKiPad, otherwise it's a feature packed application.

I found another Wiki based application, which I'm looking at now. WiKiServer

DVD Shrink
DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc.
DVD Shrink will also burn your backup DVD, if you have installed the latest version of Nero or if you download CopytoDVD.The output from DVD Shrink can be saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn with software of your choice.

I use DVD Shrink and it is a great app.  However, development on it stopped a while back and there are DVD's with newer protection that it can not handle.  It is too bad that this software did not continue to be developed.
