It looks similar to the Notepad++, but with less toolbars and menus. I assume that it is just a really trim Notepad replacement that recognizes syntax?

Not only does it recognise it, it allows you to sort of paste it in from the menu at the top.

I think we can also add CutePDF Writer in the list. Is there any better free pdf writers available?

In our tests, we found downloads on this site that some people consider adware, spyware, or other unwanted programs.
Download                                                                   Analysis

CutePDF Writer Companion 2.6 (CuteComp.exe) - Adware-WhenU,Adware-Url
CutePDF Writer Companion 2.6 (CuteComp.exe) - Adware-WhenU,Adware-Url
CutePDF Writer Companion 2.61 (CuteComp.exe) - Adware-WhenU,Adware-Url
CutePDF Writer Companion 2.61 (CuteComp.exe) - Adware-WhenU,Adware-Url

I will add the other ones but i dont see the need to add programs which includes spyware/adware

Hi, on the issue of CutePdf Writer: It's the Cute Companion (CuteComp.exe) that is (they even tell you on their page) ad infected, not the cute writer (CuteWriter.exe). CuteCompanion is not a necessary part but just an extra. Maybe this helps in making a decission on CuteWriter. I think it's harmless.

Greetings, wolfsong

Notepad++ v4.0.2 is released

v4.0.2 fixed bugs (from v4.0.1) :

1. Fix the crash issue regarding the docking feature.
2. Fix the crash issue for Find in files feature.
3. Fix the crash issue while pressing close button in Windows dialog (menu "Window->windows...").
4. Fix the bug that the docked dialog can not be resized by dragging splitter under w98.

I'm really glad that Office 2007 has the add-in available to save as a PDF...but sometimes that still doesn't format the pages quite right. I like having software installed to "print to PDF" just in case since that always seems to look good.

Paint.Net 3.01 is out - http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html

The following changes were made in Paint.NET 3.01:

    * Fixed: Crash when trying to save a palette with a blank name
    * Fixed: Changing an image's DPI resolution did not set its "dirty" flag (you would not be asked to save changes)
    * Fixed: Error messages at startup were covered by the splash screen
    * Fixed: Crash when a modal dialog was open (such as an effect) when the user tried to logoff/restart/shutdown Windows
    * Mitigated some CPU usage issues when the app was minimized and a complex selection was active

I really love Paint.NET and I'm surprised at how frequently they get around to updating it. They just need to make a nice portable version now (hmm, wonder if I can just copy the files from the Program Files directory, but it might write to the registry).
