PDF Editor - A PDF editor
« on: June 12, 2007, 12:52:38 PM »
I never thought I would stumble upon a (free) piece of software like this: a PDF editor! Not only does it create PDF files, but unlike every other application I've seen so far, this program will let you edit PDF files for free. No expensive software required, Linux is all you need.

I found this on GetDEB.net, a download site for Ubuntu apps.

I just use Google Docs or Zoho since they both offer an option to save a document as a PDF. Of course that requires that you upload the file you need to convert, but it works fairly well.

In Windows I run Office 2007 with the plugin to convert to PDF and this works pretty well, however I only have Visio 2003. In that case I use Primo PDF to generate the PDF. This generates a PDF through a printer driver and is fairly simple.

Yeah, but this is different. Not only will it allow you to create PDF files, you'll also be able to edit any PDF file that you find on the internet. But then again, I can't come up with a situation where I have to do that kind of stuff.

Really? I didn't know that you could edit existing PDF's without converting them to a DOC format or something.

What do you think people use Adobe Acrobat for? :)

For creating the PDF's and converting them to other formats, such as a Word document. I've never used it before so I'm not sure how it works, but I just assumed that the PDF's couldn't be edited unless they were converted to another format.  ???

Prefect this was just what I was looking for.  I generate my invoices via OpenOffice but wanted a printable copy my clients that they can access online.  I'll have to a blog entry about this one, given the popularity of my article about FoxIt Reader.

If you're looking for a virtual printer that just exports to PDF, you should also give PDF Redirect Free a try. Free, user-friendly interface and no ads. See which one you like the most. (Note: the tool looks better than the website. :D)

But OpenOffice has a built in PDF feature.

On Linux, OpenOffice.org often sc***s up PDF export. I don't know why, maybe this is one of these weird things that only happen on my computer. Every PC (don't know about Macs) behaves strange when doing certain things. For example: we once had a PC that would crash whenever you'd start a Macromedia Projector executable. My DVD player doesn't play recorded DVDs properly; both on Windows and Linux. It's really weird.

I know that OpenOffice PDF export was terrible in version 1.x when it was released, but it was severly revamped around the 2.x launch. I've never really had a computer with the quirks that you've explained.  B|
