Bill Gates Going to Space? Would you go?
« on: April 11, 2007, 07:29:09 PM »
I was just reading an article over at Yahoo News talking about how Bill Gates is considering a flight into space. According to a Russian cosmonaut, Bill is preparing for his first visit to space which they say would be in 2009 or later.

So, if you had the chance-- an all expensive trip paid to space, would you go? What about if you had to pay for it. Is it worth the cost?

Maybe if it was free...but it is super expensive if you actually had to pay for it. The real question would be whether it is safe enough yet for passengers to travel into space?

Considering that only two shuttles have ever had a problem, yes, I'd have to say it's safe enough.  Is it worth the expense?  I'd say no.  There is, however, a company, Virgin Galactic, that is trying to mainstream space flight, hoping to eventually offer relatively inexpensive spaceflight options as a means of transport.  Tickets are expected to initially sell for $200,000 for 6 minutes in space.

When it comes to space travel, I don't think I'd be a beta tester.

I'll wait for the 3rd or 4th generation  :)

I definitely agree Chris! I beta test a lot of things...but that wouldn't be one of them. :)

Conspiracy theorists say that we haven't landed on the moon yet and that it's all fake. Adam Curry talked about that a while ago on hist podcast.

Here's a list of relevant episodes:

I have heard all of my life that the moon landings were all conspiracies and it really makes you wonder what is true. That would have to be one of the biggest (and oldest) lies in history if the moon landing really didn't occur.
