Google's April Fool's Joke of the Year 2007
« on: March 31, 2007, 11:27:31 PM »
I think I just found the April Fool's joke this year!  Read about it here and here.

I have to say, this is a great idea!  It's the best thing since Zip Disks! ;)

Thanks MetaMan! Just got done writing up an article about it. It was actually pretty clever if you read through it all including the user testimonials.

I think Gmail Paper is not a bad idea. But then again, in this era of printers we don't really need such a service.

True but I don't have a printer...but then again I don't have a Gmail account either.

I love the part where they said they would place ads on the back of the sheets. ;D

It just shows that everything Google does has something to do with advertising in some way or another. I heard that they use Analytics data to build user profiles so that they can serve you personalized ads based on what Google Analytics-enabled sites you've visited. In the end, they're as evil as Yahoo with their web beacons...

I hadn't heard about that with Google, but they are surely going to make sure they benefit somehow from it otherwise why offer a service that has to take a lot of resources to run?

Essentially, they're doing evil things with web beacons and before you know it they'll have a detailled profile about you and what kind of websites you visit. Don't forget that you can disable this tracking mechanism by adding the filter http://www.google-analytics.com/* to Adblock. Although I don't like the idea of Google tracking me, I'm not going to block Analytics because I don't want to mess up people's site stats.

Yeah, that was definitely hilarious! I wonder how many Googlers it takes to come up with these things.
