I been having problems once in a while where Firefox or Thunderbird won't start.  However when I go into the task manager under processes, I see (some times multiple times) firefox.exe or thunderbrid.exe . I click the end process accept the warning, but it will not shut down.  The only solution I have is to restart Windows and hope this time both applications come up.

Any ideas as to what could cause they applications to fail to load and/or shut-down when forced to do so?

I'm almost positive that this is a known issue with Firefox, and that it's already been fixed in Firefox 3. If you give it a few minutes I think it will eventually close, but it's the memory leaks that are causing the issue.

But I've had the same problem with Thunderbird, it won't start but the process is running and won't go away.
