Setting File Folders to display the same
« on: August 01, 2007, 03:23:19 PM »
I was wondering if anyone here knew off the top of their head how to set the folder view to be the same in all folders?

In XP, you told it to apply the same setting to all folders un the file view options, however, Vista apparently has that buried somewhere where my eyes have yet to find it.

So before spending the time to dig looking for it, I thought I would ask here first.

When I was using Vista I found that option still in almost the same place in Folder Options. But, Vista still likes to change the folders view settings anytime it feels like anyway.

Cool, thanks xpgeek.  I do not know how I missed that!  :o

I did notice a change between XP and Vista which probably accounts for what you mentioned about Vista changing them whenever it feels like.  In XP it would change all folders, but in Vista it only changes all other folders of the same type.

Yeah, Vista is kinda crazy like that. It likes to think it knows what view is best for every folder. :)

I don't regret the switch one bit. At least on my computers performance is better than XP (I have no doubt about that). What's your experience been like OMD? Do you love it or hate it?

I really like Vista, and the performance has been great except for the file copy issue.  I did download the fix but have not yet been brave enough to install it.

The only other things are learning how things are done differently, and the UAC that needs some adjustments to make it better..

Overall I think it is a great OS.

The fix definitely helps, and I've seen no bad side affects thusfar. Resuming from standby is almost instant for me now, where before it would take about 15-seconds.

So is there a way to get Vista to make the settings the same for all folders?

I agree with that.

Tonight was the first time I've used stand-by.  It took the 15-seconds or so to recover.

@Al - To apply the same settings for all folders the same, do the following after setting the folder the way you want it:

1.  Click on the "Organize" Drop Down.
2.  Click on "Folder and Search Options."
3.  Click on the "View" tab.
4.  Click the button "Apply to Folders."

It says it will apply to all folders of "this type", which I assume means it will only apply to folders of the same type.  I do not know exactly what that means as mine "appears" to have applied to all folders.

If you have problems getting the "view" modes to stick, try out this program:
http://cybernetnews.com/2007/08/30/tweak-vista-xp-with-xdn-tweaker/
It doesn't require any installation, and can help force Windows Explorer to save your viewing mode.
