I think that extension goes way beyond the features that Mozilla would incorporate into Firefox as well. They will probably keep it plain and simple offering only the option to choose a filetype. That extension is pretty nice though.

I think Cybernet posted that Locationbar2 and url fixer are going to be include in Fx3.
There's a few more I'd like to be implemented:
- Chroma or colors tabs built in (taking the color from the favicon works the best!)
- some kind of personal menu or tiny menu option so you can compress the menu bar.

Someone else already mentioned being able to move toolbars around or put 2 toolbars onto the same bar, which would be seriously awesome. I'm longing for the day when I can have the tab bar and bookmark bar on the same toolbar.

Am running very latest portable Firefox 3 nightly using the updater script and seem it loads sites much quicker then FF2 but also same memory usage as FF 2.

Also wondering does anybody use minefield as there main default browser?

Though post here and not make a new thread instead

I wasn't too impressed with the latest alpha :-\ It seems a bit faster, but I don't think the memory usage has improved much at all. I wouldn't mind not having few or no new features if they were making it more efficient and faster.

Sites will definitely load faster because of the new rendering engine, but as bob pointed out they haven't really improved the performance of the browser. Actually, the amount of memory that Firefox 3 consumes is higher than Firefox 2, and they said that they still have to fix that.

Well at least (hopefully) they've back away from the idea that it is a feature and not a problem..

I still find it ridiculous that they claimed it was a feature. People tried completely disabling the thing they said was the cause of it and the result wasn't any better. Not to mention that Opera has the same feature and it has no memory problems.

Mozilla claimed that Firefox caching some of the pages from your history was a feature:

Oh, I hope they just take that all altogether. I rarely ever go back, since I usually just open everything in a new tab....so I usually have that about:config entry disabled.

Some Firefox 3 news from Mozilla Links... the UI for Places has started to appear in the latest nightlies.  The new UI for creating and tagging bookmarks is now available!

I've tried it out and it seems OK... Tagging, sorting and adding descriptions work pretty much as expected. Although the rest of the interface hasn't landed, so you can't actually view bookmarks by tags yet.

Still, it's good to see that Places will make it into Alpha 8.

Yea, I really like the new star in the url bar. Fast simple and easy bookmarking and it shows pages you've already bookmarked. Very cool stuff.

Thanks for the tip on that Oropher!

I can't wait to see the actual interface that Mozilla ends up adding to the window that appears. Right now it is a little rough around the edges, and I think they can really spruce that up.

Not only that but there isn't really a way to view tagged bookmarks without actually searching for them. That's probably just a bug though.

No problem Ryan, I was just reading the right blog at the right time... that and I've been having a blast using the Fx3 nightlies. Just installed the latest one and found that the Bookmarks Manager window now shows tags, although there's no option to 'view/sort by tag' yet.

I'm glad they are finally getting the interface implemented, because I was starting to get worried as to whether Firefox 3 would ship in 2007. I think it has a good chance now.
