People generally don't think that they have an accent, and are surprised when other people say so. As for Chicagoans, some have an accent, especially in older west and south-side neighborhoods, but a lot of north-siders are pretty neutral. New Yorkers have a noticeable accent, though it somewhat varies by borough. People from Boston and the deep south also have noticeable accents. People in the poor areas of California have something of an accent, but the people from richer areas like San Fransisco don't really.
