Do you blog about everything others blog about?
« on: December 21, 2006, 12:27:08 AM »
I've noticed lately that posts of certain blogs always hit places like Techmeme because of the number of incoming links they receive.

I'm not complaining about the blogs, because many a times some of these posts are really worthwhile and infact I myself read the blogs.

However, at other times typically useless posts or posts with not much relevance at all are blogged about.

I can't understand the idea of doing this? Do you post about everything your favorite blogger posts about?

Well, yes, I do blog about what others blog about. There is no guarantee that the people who read our blog also read the blogs that I do so I love to relay any interesting information onto them. Is that a bad thing? If I didn't post about a new Firefox release just because another blog beat me to it then I think people would find us useless as a source of news.

Let me know if I misunderstood the question.

It's just basically people re-blogging the original with their comments. Why not just comment on the original?

Actually I meant people just reblogging, without their own comments.

I know I brought up the question and I am guilty of doing this to some extent. I have to keep stopping myself at times.

@Ryan, what you have on Cybernet is a news site, and that is understood to have the news that others blog about, same as I do on Techtites.

The point I was trying to make is about non-news material. Sometimes Mr. X blogs about topic Y and before you know it a lot of blogs have topic Y on their list. it's great if topic Y was an informative useful topic. But, many a times it is just plain rubbish!

Ahh, I see what you mean now. We always try to add a unique spin to each topic and talk about things other sources haven't discussed yet. But I see what you're getting at now and yes, I do see a lot of that.
