This is good news...the invitations were getting old already.

I must say, and I have e-mail accounts with the Big 3 (MSFT, Yahoo, Google), that Google is the best at catching spam.

But you make a good point, I wonder if they'll be able to maintain whatever it is that they do to catch it.

I'm just afraid that spammers will be creating Gmail accounts now to send mail. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but now the question arises of why the service is still in Beta?

How about Google Search Alpha ("BackRub")? :D

Almost all of my friends already had GMail, so this really isn't a big deal for me. As for spam, I'm not too concerned about that either. Google is good at these things. The spam count might go up a little bit, but I wouldn't worry.

Gmail was open to anyone who had a cellphone and didn't mind getting a text message with the invitation code. They said that they were doing it this way for a little while to prevent spammers from creating accounts.
