Firefox hits 300 million downloads
« on: February 13, 2007, 09:41:01 AM »
Looks like the 300 million download mark has been hit.

While I think the number is truly impressive, it makes me wonder how valuable it is. After all, I've downloaded it myself around 4-5 times....maybe more. The same goes for some of my family members.

I know that it's impossible, but it would be cool to know how many individual people have downloaded Firefox.

In any case, 300 million downloads is a great selling point for Firefox.

Now I have to go back and see if I can find the post I made with the growth graphs of Firefox that were updated live based on the number of downloads. Maybe we could find out when it will hit 400 million then!

While it is not possible to know the exact number of Firefox users, it is possible to make an educated guess.  Current statistics indicate that Firefox has a 14% world market share, a 20% European market share, and a 15% American market share.  Assuming there are at least 300 million computers in the US, then there must be at least 45 million computers with Firefox installed in the US alone.

Congratulations to the Mozilla Firefox team! :D ;D O0 ^-^ 8) :) B) 0:-) <3

UPDATE:
According to Wikipedia, Firefox has between 70 and 80 million users worldwide (as of October 2006). That seems to be very similar to my previous figures.

I wonder how they calculate those numbers? Is it something Mozilla is estimating or some other third-party.

Wikipedia says it's internal Mozilla figures, but Mozilla could have had a third part get the numbers for them.
