About the LivePC post on the blog...
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:06:47 PM »
Just to clarify, if I want to download the OLPC OS, I would have to download and install VMware Player first, then download that 140MB file, and do what with it? Open it within VMware Player or install it? Sorry, I never had VMware Player installed so if someone could break it down for me, that would be great. Thanks.

Im not sure about LivePC. But to run stuff in VMWare Player:

DOwnload and install the player
Downlad the Appliance you want to run. An appliance is a virtual machine, they call them appliances because they are odd.
THen extract/copy the appliance to your virtual machines directory, this should/could/might be in your My Documents folder.

Then Run VMware player and it should ask for the location of the file.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Basically, to use the OLPC OS you just have to download and install the LivePC program which is around 30MB I think. Then you download the OLPC file which is super small (just a few KB). Open that file with the LivePC program that I talk about on the blog and then it will actually do the downloading of the OLPC OS from their site. So the big download doesn't actually come until you try and run in the first time. After that it will be "cached" on your computer.
