Firefox 3.0a1
« on: November 29, 2006, 06:44:40 PM »
So does anyone know if Mozilla officially released Firefox 3.0a1 on Tuesday?  I am guessing since there has been nothing in the blog, this didn't happen. :-\

I've been watching it like a hawk but haven't seen anything.  :-\

I know that they have been switching nightly servers or something and they are having problems creating the nightlies which might slow down progress a little bit. What really stumped me is that they didn't even mention a release date in their Meeting notes from today:

Not surprising when you consider how much the release schedule for FF2 milestones kept changing, but still you would think they would at least give a new date...

If they haven't talked about it yet then I would venture to guess that it won't be happening this week nor next week since we haven't seen any code freezes... it is probably at least about two weeks away but in reality I bet it won't be until January.

Mozilla just announced the tree closure for the Gecko 1.9a rendering engine.

That might be a hint that Firefox 3 Alpha 1 is getting a little closer.

A folder on the FTP has been created for the Firefox 3 Alpha 1 nightlies...let's hope the release is soon!

Most extensions don't work by default but you can override the settings using Nightly Tester Tools or by disabling the extension check in the about:config:

You can install both programs separately if you would like but they would both use the same profile. In that case you would have to use a portable version in order to keep it completely separate.

You should also be able to create a new profile. adding the arguement -P will open firefox with the profile manager, which would let you create new profiles and select different ones. you should able to automatically use a certain profile with the arguement -P profilename, something like that anyway.

So Ryan are you planning to put out a portable version?

I am thinking about it and have been trying to work with John Haller, the creator of Firefox Portable, so that we can put out what will be known as a "Community Edition". He said there are some trademark issues that Mozilla could go after me for if I don't have their permission...which is why I haven't posted one in awhile. I guess I can always post it to MediaFire and keep it a little more silent in the forum.

The the only two things I know for sure are Advanced Microsummaries and Acid 2 Compliant.
