GNOME or KDE?
« on: January 27, 2007, 11:00:54 PM »
If you're an Ubuntu user, which Desktop Environment do you like better? GNOME or KDE?

I've been using GNOME from the start, and I just installed KDE today to try it out.

I thought it was pretty cool. You can definitely customize more things. And there is more eye candy.

However, at the end of the day, I found myself gravitating back to GNOME.

I was curious as to what other Ubuntu users think...

I'm a big fan of KDE, especially with the new Start Menu that SUSE 10.2 has in it. It is so unique compared to any other browser and really helps get the job done faster. Of course, I haven't tried out the new Gnome Menu that SUSE 10.2 has so that might be even better. Here are images of the two new menus:

I know there are a few people here who like KDE.

Perhaps this site can be of use to you. I came across it today:

I know I stumbled across that site before but I can't remember when. I always found it funny that the most download theme is a Mac-like one:

I spent a bunch of time on KDE today, and decided to make the switch.

I think I outgrew GNOME.

The only thing that I really like about GNOME is that there are a lot of great tutorials on using it. KDE is slightly different so finding some help might not be as easy...if you find any good resource make sure to let us know!

I am a GNOME fan, I used KDE for some years, and tried out GNOME one day and never looked back.  I am just glad my favorite distro (Unbuntu) comes with GNOME as the default. :-D

If you download alien using sudo apt-get install alien, you can convert RPMs to DEBs if you want. Do alien --help for syntax information.
