Ryan's remarks about is the point that I was trying to get across.  MS makes good usable programs.  Program bloat is not limited to Microsoft software, it has happened with all mainstream software over the years.

I'll add my two cents about Microsoft...

Ever since I switched to being a regular Linux user, I took notice that many in the Linux community absolutely DESPISE Microsoft. But I just can't agree with them. One thing that I think many people tend to forget is WHO Microsoft tailors its software to...the masses.

The general population does not know the difference between a bloated piece of software and non-bloated...between IE and Firefox...etc..

And to tell you the truth, I'd venture to say that a majority really don't care...They just want something that's SUPER EASY to do, and that's it!

They don't want to type commands into terminals, or God-forbid READ how anything works.

So Microsoft provides it.

Is it the best? Is it the most efficient?

No way!

But it satisfies the wants of the general population...

To say that EVERYBODY should use Linux over Windows because Linux is so much better, is like saying everybody should drink vegetable juice over Coca-Cola, because vegetable juice is so much better for you.

While both may be true, the probabilities of people in general choosing to do either is pretty close to zero.

Ok...maybe that was a little bit more than 2 cents. :)

Good post Chris. I don't hate Microsoft, but I don't hate Linux or OSX either. The more choices there is the better off everyone is. And thats what it is all about, choice. I prefer Windows, because I just do, its what I like and am most comfortable in using, some people prefer Linux, some people prefer OSX, and all have their reasons for choosing what they do.

Great 2.5 cents worth Chris!  O0

This is exactly the sentiment I was wanting to get across.  I too prefer Windows, however, I have used Linux, MS-DOS, etc.

That's a great analogy...I'm going to have to use that in casual conversation sometime to see what someone says. :D

I have had to do a lot with Linux in projects and managing the website, and I have to admit that it is a very handy tool to have under your belt. A lot of high-performance things are using Linux right now to perform tasks and I think it will have real possibilities in the future of becoming a very widespread operating system.

Reason why its 7.04 Ubuntu Not Vista is i cant see why Vista Ultimate OEM is worth ?115 or ?325 Retail. Its a shame if people can create a operating system for free like Ubuntu then Bill Gates does not need to spend $10million on vista when its not even worth ?115 in my eyes

Wow I would love to watch you do that while hopping!!!! I hope you meant hoping.

Anyway, I kinda agree with the general tone here. M$ arent the worst software maker and there not trhe best. Linux isnt perfect, has anyone ever installed drivers without instructions? And OS X has a few hardcore flaws with regard to printing.

In the light of most software, if you ignore security M$ do pretty well. Its a shame that security is vitally important!

Security is overrated...there are hardly any scams or hackers out there.  ::)

PayPal does, however, send me an email everyday asking for my account information. Don't know why, but I figure it must just be a database issue so I give it to them.  B)

Are they the ones that just contacted me about their neice's nephew's grandfather's cousin's mother-in-law who entered a ticket for me in a lottery and I won? I just claimed my $4 trillion.
