2 blogging questions.
« on: January 08, 2007, 05:02:47 PM »
1. In Blogger Beta, how do I customize how many articles will show up in the RSS feed? For example, I was the 5 most recent posts to be added into the RSS feed, but in my Firefox live bookmark, I see every post that's available on the blog.

2. I want to switch over to a wordpress.com blog. Is there a way to import my posts? I already registered a blog with them, but it's empty. I hear wordpress is better than blogger so I wanted to give them a try.

I can't answer question one because I no longer use Blogger.

But I do use WordPress, and yes you can import your Blogger posts. However, they must be the Old Blogger and not the Blogger Beta.

To import, just click on the "Manage" tab in your WordPress account and then select "Import." You will be given a selection to choose from and Blogger is one of the choices. You can import your posts, comments, and users from your Blogger account.

Is there a way to get back to Old Blogger because I recently switched over to Beta.

As I learned when I made that mistake  >80  (and they warn you too), you will be unable to undo the change.  I ended up copying my posts over to WordPress with mixed results.  I am still finding some posts that I didn't get "cleaned up" that had links to blogger in them.  WordPress is so much better, you get categories as well as stats and they support ping backs.

Okay, I have a few solutions that might work...but none appear to be point-and-click easy.

This seems to be a discussion board started at WordPress regarding the issue. At this time there is no easy way to import your Blogger Beta posts and there is no way to revert back to the Blogger Classic.

Discussion board: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/83877

Possible, but tedious solution: http://www.webbleyou.com/2006-09-14-how-to-move-from-blogger-beta-to-wordpress

Better solution, but not sure if it works for WordPress.com: http://www.romantika.name/v2/2006/12/19/import-blogger-beta-to-wordpress/

I've never used Blogger before, but as Fx Extension Guru just said I have read several people saying that WordPress is better and more powerful. So it might be worth the initial hassle.

Thanks for the help guys. I might just copy and paste my posts over. I think I have a grand total of like 36 of them.  ;D It will probably be much easier.

Yeah, that probably would be the fastest thing to do. It also doesn't look like you have many images so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Images were my problem, I hadn't put those on Photobucket so they were still linked to the blogger account (which is still active but inactive) .

Ahhh, I never even noticed that you were using PhotoBucket for your images. PhotoBucket is such a nice service, I just can't believe that they don't let you upload photos without signing up for an account.

Wordpress is really great, I couldnt live without it now.

I use the Blogsome Flavour of Wordpress and I love it! Its just like Wordpress.com, but without the whole money side of things.

Money side of things? Wordpress.com is free unless you want to use a custom domain. You might be referring to something else?

Actually Ryan, WordPress is charging for more features these days:

Custom CSS - $15
Unlimited Private Users - $30
1 Gig extra space - $20
5 Gigs - $50
10 Gigs - $90

Few more questions:

Where do I insert the code for Google AdSense? (the ads, the searchbar, and a Download Firefox button)?

Where do I add the code to have RSS feeds for different services (like add to Google Reader, add to del.icio.us, add to bloglines)? I want to have those buttons on the right side?

Lastly, where do I add the code for a custom meebo me widget [http://www.meebome.com/?i]? I also want it to be on the right side.

well, thats a big question. Do you know where to find the code for your website? If you can make that available somehow, im sure someone can show you where you need to paste the code!
