I have been wondering for a long time what is the first thing that everyone installs on a fresh Windows installation? For many people it is probably some sort of drivers but after you get all of those technicalities set aside what is the first actual application that you put on your fresh PC?
For me the first thing is almost always Firefox because I go and download all of my freeware on my PC and install those first. I start to do some of the larger programs after I get all of the small ones done.
After some good responses here I'll probably right up a post about it on the blog...so if you have any other tips about a fresh installation of Windows make sure to throw them in. Thanks!

There 3 main ones Firefox. AVG Free Edition/ AVG AntiSpyware , Windows Live Messenger 8.1,
ATM dont use ZoneAlarm free on my laptop(but still on the main PC) as since changed my router to a wireless one and its built in encryption its only blocked 8 attacks and they were asked and they where games or new software and 0 were high risks

Due to most people using routers of some form, ZoneAlarm is becoming kinda outdated I think.

Yeah, a NAT will help prevent attacks but doesn't stop them as Rockpeteuk said. But between that and the built-in Windows Firewall I feel safe enough for the casual browsing that I do. I know I know...it is the Windows Firewall but there aren't many good/working firewall solutions for Vista right now.
