That looks like an interesting piece of software. A lot of my own problems never really relate to only the registry. It is just an overall slowdown of the system.

I try not to reformat if I can help it.  I have a lot of games installed and an ever-expanding music collection, not to mention tons of photos, so it really is a pain for me to do it frequently.  I only reformat if I have to, and I haven't needed to in a very long time (and I intend to keep it that way).  Running CCleaner a lot, defragmenting often and avoiding installations if I don't have to (I try to only use portable software, except for things like anti-virus, MS Office, Firefox, etc).  My computer is by no means at peak performance, but it still works very well.

DriveImage XML was highly recommended to me by Davis McCarn

The software not only looks amazing, but it is free! I am just perplexed at how backup software can save everything in an XML file. I read and re-read the description but I'm still not exactly sure how it can only use XML files for the backup.

I tend to install all kinds of junk and therefor have to reformat about every 6 months or so. I have my documents and pictures backed up to my server so a reformat is easy to handle.

I've started being really careful with my computer, I keep the installed programs to a minimum, I dont install n e thing just to try it out, I use a VM for that. Also, thanks to firefox, I hardly have n e internet related probs n e more.
I think I have reintalled windows once in the last 2 years.

Once in the last 2 years? I think that is nothing short of remarkable! I do have to say that Vista seems a lot better about uninstalling things. It still seems to leave folders and stuff behind, but in XP it always seemed like even if I uninstalled something my computer will still suffer in the speed department. I've installed/uninstalled a lot of things on Vista and it seems to run as fast as it ever did...actually it runs faster than XP for me.

I am not sure which is more impressive you haven't reformatted in that long or that you are using Windows 95!

Yeah, especially as it is my primary machine! ^-^
Note: I have not used my 95 in years.

I try to reformat "normally" once or twice a year.  However, I find myself having to restore images more and more often.

I'm speechless! As FF Extension Guru said, it is impressive that you haven't reformatted and you're stilling using Windows 95. What kind of specs on the PC?

As much as I would like to not format very often, it is always nice to start with a clean slate a few times a year. I'm finding with Vista that it doesn't seem to slow down over time so hopefully I'll only have to do it once or twice a year now. XP always started to slow down for me after just a month or two.

I actually did use it recently, and it wasn't that slow.  Also, since it is a 95, most of that slowness can be attributed to the 266 MHz Pentium 2. :D
