I want to use the recovery partition but can't
« on: April 02, 2009, 04:16:45 PM »
OK, here's the deal.  I am ready to wipe my hard drive and start over but I can't access my BIOS. Now comes the tricky part, I can't get into the bios screen because when I got a new LCD monitor it doesn't power itself on until windows starts up.  If I press the F1 key to go into bios my computer just stops.  I am assuming that it successfully went to the screen that I want to access but I can't see it because the monitor says it is not getting a signal.  As anybody else run into this problem or know a way around it?

Thanks

That is rather odd, my experience is as soon as the computer is turned on it should be sending a signal to your monitor. Do you or anyone you know have an old boat anchor...I mean CRT monitor laying around that you can connect temporally so you can get into the BIOS?

Well you know I had 3 boat anchors up until about a month and a half ago when they finally made it to the recycling center, I may never throw anything away again.

I have tried updating my drivers maybe I need to rollback my drivers.  I will figure something out.  Maybe I could hook it up to my tv?

Doesn't power itself on until Windows starts? That is the weirdest thing I've ever heard. Hooking it up to your TV should work fine... I'm guessing the key to get into the BIOS might be different than the F1 though? Maybe like DEL, F2, or F12 (those are the common ones I've seen).

After leaving the issue alone and just thinking about, I have something different I will try.  To get the DVI input on the lcd monitor to work I had to add a new video card.  The puter came with an on board card I think if I hook the monitor up to the on board card instead of the secondary card that I added...

Anyway that is what I will try tomorrow.
