iPod and Vauxhall Corsa
« on: December 26, 2006, 04:18:31 AM »
So here's the deal, my awesome girlfriend got me an 8gb iPod Nano for christmas. I want to be able to connect it to my car stereo.

The catch is that I have controls for my stereo on the steering wheel, I want to be able to use those to control the ipod.

I know this is possible with expensive aftermarket solutions, but I'm looking for something a lot more affordable.

This is my car

I think its a Holden in Australia and an Opel in Europe and America.

Any Ideas? Any one?

Unfortunately I haven't seen any "affordable" solutions. This is something that I found:

http://www.dension.com/icelinkplus.php

but I couldn't find a price. I would guess that it costs more than the iPod itself though.

I know you want more control than this will give you, but we have a fm transmitter that we attach to a i pod mini, you would only be able to control the volume though.  You could just put it on shuffle maybe?  Also I would suggest you get a car charger adapter for the i pod also, without ours being plugged in to the car the signal is only strong enough to produce mono sounds.

I am sure this is not the solution you were looking for, but it is a low cost alternative.

good luck

I've tried the FM transmitters before and I think that they work okay, but at least around where I live there is just so much interference that it seems like the signal the transmitter produces is never as clear as it should be. I just use the auxiliary jack on my stereo to plug the iPod in but I don't have steering wheel controls...although I do have a remote controller for it.
