« on: July 15, 2008, 11:47:09 AM »
Has anyone bought Super Monkey Ball yet? Is it really worth its 7 euro and 99 cents?

I bought it the other day, but have not played it much yet.  I have gotten addicted to two other iPhone games that use the accelerometer.  They are:

1.  Chopper (One I am most addicted to)
2.  Cro-Mag - A Mario Cart type game that is highly addictive which has great graphics and great control via the accelerometer.

These two are definitely worth the money IMHO.  I have not yet played Monkey Ball enough to give any type of recommendation on.  To me, it takes a lot more precise control as you can fall off the platforms, which happened to me a lot the first time I played.  I have gotten so addicted to Chopper which is what I play 90% of the time on the iPhone, so I have not done much playing on the other games yet.  I have played Bejeweled 2 a bit as it is one of the only puzzle games that I like and it plays great on the iPhone.  I have a Mahjongg game as I like these puzzle games, however, it is still a bit hard to see tiles on the small screen as compared to a computer monitor.  However, I believe if I would wear my glasses, then it would be better.

Judging from the screenshots I saw, Chopper's not my cup of tea. I'm not a big fan of racing games either. I've read about the sensitiveness of the accelerometer during SMB, but I think I could get used to that. It's just that I have to be careful what I spend my money on since my allowance is my only income.

On a side note, I'm so crazy about the App Store right now that I go out and browse the list of new free apps every day. This VNC viewer looked worth sharing. What bums me out though is that we cannot get some of the cool stuff that US residents get. We have to miss out on Google Mobile, Last.fm, Pandora Radio, AOL Radio and who knows what else for no apparent reason (well, except for Pandora of course).

What about Brain Challenge? Is that any good?

I like the APP Store as well.  I just wish they had a better way of listing new releases.

I will be trying out Pandora tonight when I get home while I am waiting for my computer upgrade components to be delivered by UPS.

I have not tried Brain Challenge, and if it is one of those thinking puzzle games, then I probably will not.  Bejeweled 2 and Mahjongg is about the only puzzle games I will play.  I am more for the action or simple puzzle game guy.  I use my brain too much at work, so it needs dumb simple distractions to relax with.  B#

If you're a Bejeweled 2 user, I have some good advice: DON'T BUY IT. PopCap offers an ad-free webapp version of Bejeweled for exactly 0 dollars on their website.

Why do you need iTunes installed just to browse the applications which are available for iPhone/iTouch, another reason i dislike Apple & iTunes   >80

Every since the app store opened i have check for a web based apps store which enabled you to browse and check the screenshots of the applications (without installing or asking for more applications)

Sometimes i think Apple are worse then Microsoft

I am still sticking with my view on NEVER buying any thing from Apple. Just over priced and not needed

As JK said on the iPhone 3G News Round Up

I’ve never considered purchasing Apple hardware because it’s generally over-priced and several critical applications I need to use just aren’t available. Also, Apple fan-boys are insufferable tools.

I haven't actually bought any games yet, but I'm on the verge of grabbing some. I just wanted to restrain myself from going crazy and buying stuff until other people splurged and spent the money trying them out. I'll definitely be getting Super Monkey Ball, and I've heard great things about Chopper as well. I'm torn between getting Cro-Mag or Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart. Both look pretty good.

I'm so crazy about the App Store right now that I go out and browse the list of new free apps every day. This VNC viewer looked worth sharing. I'm checking the App Store for new stuff all of the time as well. Don't be bummed about not being able to use Google Mobile... I find it to be kinda worthless since it's not directly integrated into Safari. I ditched it right away.

One Thing i don't like about Microsoft at moment is needing Sliverlight installed for certain websites from them - e.g. -

http://www.microsoft.com/emea/windowsmobileapps/default.mspx

And the Download Center but it takes you to a non- sliverlight version now then a popup ask you to try new version by downloading sliverlight.exe

Even the homepage http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx A popup ask you to try new version by downloading sliverlight.exe before you close the popup

Final Rant Note -

Even Microsoft's Zune 2.0 software update was free. Apple's iPod 2.0 update should be free too.

I hate that too, but honestly I think I should be defending Apple here.

1) It's like an OS upgrade from Windows 95 to 98. You get a little more features while the interface stays the same. Would Microsoft give that upgrade to you for free?
2) Microsoft is giving away Zune upgrades in hopes of increasing its market share. If they'd ever dominate the market, they would stop doing that.

You're exactly right. Most companies don't give something away for nothing. Obviously if they can get money for their software they will charge for it, unless they have an alternative motive.

Think about how it was with older iPods where if you wanted the new software you had to go out and buy a whole new device. Apple never released new features to their other iPods via a software update.

I agree but i think you could of used a better company to use instead of Microsoft, as Microsoft would give nothing worth while for free think Xbox Live vs PSN Debate

Second point i agree 100% its like article i read about Microsoft added no features to IE once IE6 controlled basically 100%

But on firmwares - i have to say Sony Ericsson are a great company as they have released 9 firmwares updates for my phone over the 3 years i have had it (All Free)

Same argument: they wanna get customer satisfaction so that they can increase their market share. I use their products too, but I think I'm a little out of range for a cellphone OS upgrade...

Anyway, I bought SMB yesterday and I've had some time to play with it now. I got through the ten first stages. I thought "Sure, the controls will be sensitive but I can get used to that". Turns out they're even more sensitive then I thought they would be. I'm learning though!

That is just awesome.  I for sure am one that needs this new AA (App Store Anonymous)!  I am sure Apple will want to counter it though.

That cartoon is hilarious! I'm definitely one of those addicts, and I did notice the other day just how many flashlight programs there are. It's crazy!
