I haven't tried disabling my security but I assume it would work. Disabling my security just to use Linux isn't an option for me though so I didn't bother trying. Even if it does work, I'm not going to disable my router security each time. And I'm using a 128-bit key which I selected as the option on that wireless screen that Ubuntu shows me.
I normally disable my security when trying to troubleshoot stuff like this though so that I can determine whether the OS is even capable of connecting to the router. If it connects and works with the wireless disabled then you know it's just an issue with the security settings, but if it still can't connect then you know it's a problem with how the OS is communicating with the router.

But it connected to another unsecured network. So I guess it's a security issue. The OS can in fact communicate with a router (just not mine). I don't see why if it can communicate with a router that isn't mine, it wouldn't be able to communicate with mine. I never had problems connecting anything to my router.

I don't know, how do I check? The laptop has a wireless card built into it so I can't really physically look at the card, but I can check any settings on the laptop.

Umm, I pulled out the USB drive I used to transfer the output file and the drive still appears on the desktop. I then figured out I had to right-click and Unmount drive. So the drive isn't in the laptop, but is still on the desktop as an icon. How do I fix that? Will a restart fix this?

A restart should fix that.

Max i did some quick searching on ubuntu forums with your wireless card "Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (rev 05)" and seems that version has problems on the new 8.04. Its shame as i have read Intel wireless cards normally work out of box

Thanks for looking that up! Maybe a future update will fix the issue...?
