A new use for a gun?

Tell me this isn't one of the most terrible things you've read in a long time. [via]

Quote
DEEPWATER, Mo. -- Officials are trying to decide whether to file charges against a Missouri man who fatally shot his wife while trying to install a satellite TV system in the bedroom of their home.

Patsy Long, 34, of Deepwater, died after being shot in the chest with a .22-caliber handgun on Saturday. Her husband, Ronald Long, fired the shot from the inside of their home after several unsuccessful efforts to punch a hole through the exterior wall using other means.

Henry County sheriff's deputies said the woman was hit by the second of two shots fired by her husband.

Long was given CPR by neighbors and family until medics arrived, police said. She was transported by air ambulance, but was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 6 p.m.

This comes from people losing their respect for guns.  When I was growing up I was always taught to respect guns and always treat them like the are loaded and never point it in any direction where it could hit someone.  I think very few parents take the time to teach their children anything like this now days.  Even worse I think the video games now days make it so people don't even give guns a second thought; it's desensitizing people to the fact that they are truly a dangerous item and should not be picked up or used unless you know everything necessary to handle them safely.  Very sad indeed.

Even if it was an accident, I think he should be charged. That could have killed a neighbor's kid too or anyone in the area. It was beyond stupid IMHO. Is there such a thing as criminally stupid? Well, if not there should be! Fact, I really am suspicious this is really what happened.

The only gun I ever had growing up was a BB gun, and I pretty much just shot at pop cans with it. Even still I've seen some careless people with those.

I really am suspicious this is really what happened.
I think a lot of people are doubtful that this is how it all went down. You would surely think that someone wouldn't be this irresponsible.

When I was growing up it was pretty much understood you would learn to shoot and hunt.  I did for a while, but in the end it was not my thing (I could not deal with the thought of killing) though I loved the part about spending a couple weeks of the year away from everything and staying out in the wilderness.  That part was very nice.  Now that I hardly ever get a vacation I wish I could go back.

PS I got my first bb gun when I was around 10 and moved up from that over time as I learned more and learned to respect the weapon and what it can do.  Most people are way to careless for me to want to be any where near them if they have a weapon.

Hey sanjay, what country are you from.  These laws sound way more restrictive than anything I have seen in the USA.  Here you must pass a hunter safety course in order to carry your gun with you.  Of course you need permission if you are on private land, but over here much land is public and legal for someone to hunt or shoot on as long as you are shooting in a safe manner.  That's the part that annoys me, so many do not check that the direction they are shooting in is safe and don't take into consideration how far a bullet can travel.  That is what causes many to get hurt.
