Open minesweeper, hold your mouse over the window, and hit 'xyzzy' and then (shift+enter).

The very top left pixel in your screen (not on the minesweeper board) will turn white if you hover over a safe
space and black if theres a mine under the square your mouse is on.

Just tried it too and it doesn't appear to work in Vista. Nifty little trick though, although that defeats the purpose of the game!

Sorry guys, I thought Microsoft would have kept it in all Windows versions. It works in XP though!

I have WinXP on a laptop too and it worked for me. Maybe you typed it wrong? Restart the game and try again.

It worked for me on vista, it put a red flag above the mines if they were on the square your mouse was over.

I don't want to cheat at mine sweep. I am just trying to see if there is a pattern.
What do the numbers 1 2 3 4 or 5 mean.

The numbers mean something like there's that many mines attached to the number. So for example if you have a box with a 2, it has 2 mines somewhere directly touching that box.
