It's a good system and I would use it in a second myself, but kind of expensive. Granted so are Blu-Ray burners for now. Hard drives sure are getting cheaper and cheaper now days, so it's something to think about.
It is rather expensive, however, it is brand new.  I expect that it will catch on and as the Drobo matures and gets more popular, it should come down in price.  Just like with any new technology, the high price is paying for the R&D.

Very true OMD. I've been burned a few times on being first to buy something. My first CD (yea CD) burner cost me over 600 bucks back in the day. But it was well worth it I had a lot of files to cram on them CD's at the time.

Man!  You just made me remember the first ever CD player I saw when they first came out.  They started at $1000.00!

I don't even remember (or care to) how much I paid for my first DVD player.  The first CD Player I bought was in 1993 after the one my folks had given me stopped working. I was going to have it fixed until I found it would be cheaper to buy a new one than get this one fixed. Then theres father's $4000 Laptop from the late 1980's that he bought at the grand opening of SoftWarehouse (the now defunked CompUSA).

Yea, years from now we'll be talking about I remember this store that sold mostly computer stuff called CompUSA and very few people (youngsters) will have heard of them. Shame!

It's hard to imagine a CD burner costing that much! Another funny thought is the price of VCR's. My mom remembers paying $1,000 for their first one back in the early 80's. Crazy!

Wow! I feel much better about my overpriced CD burner now. :)

I think my Dad bought one for $300 or $400. Then he went nuts renting movies all the time. Still does. Back then we had 2 movie houses in town that played only 1 movie a week (or so). We missed a lot of great movies.

I remember paying $500 for a VCR in mid 80's. It was HI-FI VCR that was pretty much top of the line at the time and I have not even had a VCR for 5 or 6 years now.

Hmm, it was about 5 years my VCR quit working.  I tried to get a new one last fall, only to discover they are nearly impossible to find.

I still see VCR's on sell a lot around here, but they are mostly combo units now.
