Blu-ray VS HD-DVD
« on: January 02, 2007, 08:09:33 PM »
Can someone find me a list of studios that support Blu-ray and those that support HD-DVD. I found a list for HD-DVD on wikipedia but not Blu-ray. Also, since the two are competing, does that mean that a movie will be released for one and not the other? Nevermind.
Quote from: Wikipedia
On November 29, 2004 four Hollywood studios (New Line Cinema, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Warner Bros.) announced non-exclusive agreements to support HD DVD. Since that time, Paramount and Warner have chosen to release titles in both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD, while only Universal has since announced exclusive support for HD DVD. New Line has not released movies in either format yet but since it is owned by Warner it is expected to follow the parent company's lead.

I found the following list at:  http://www.blu-ray.com/ under the "Movies" link

 20th Century Fox
 Disney / Buena Vista
 Lionsgate Films
 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
 New Line Cinema
 Paramount Pictures
 Sony Pictures
 Universal Studios
 Warner Bros.
 Weinstein Company

I know that I have read somewhere that there is at least one or a couple studios that will release to both formats.

Do you have a player for either one yet?  I bought the HD-DVD player for my Xbox 360.  However, I have not seen enough of a quality improvement to warrant paying twice the price for the movies.  However, my HDTV will only go to 1081i.

It is really nice to be able to access the menu system while the movie is still playing though.

Yea, I recently bought a PS3. It's shipping as of right now. So I was just wondering whether I can buy Borat on Blu-ray when (and if) it's released. Borat is being released by 20th Century Fox. Thanks for the help.

You bought a PS3! You'll definitely have to let us know how it goes and whether it was worth it.

Yes, definitely let us know if it was worth it.  The article that I read in the latest Sound & Vision magazine said the PS3 Blu-Ray playback was the best over the only other 2 Blu-Ray players that are available.  The article can be found here:

Agreed! Borat isnt exactly befitting of High Definition anything! At least something visually spectacular would look good! Men in over the shoulder thongs? Wrong kind of spectacular!

dont orget the porno industry backs blue ray ;D lolzzzzzzz

but it seems not to matter as a few hybrid hd dvd and blue ray devices are gettng talkd about even though to me bue ray is a stronger contender due to it being of larger size and the utter lies of hd dvd prices being cheaper when they are of the same price's of blue ray top movies ?20 and medium ?15.... and the list goes on its the same as when dvd was released etc so its utter cr**

I took some unboxing pics. Maybe I'll post 'em up later depending on how they came out. And in a couple of days, I'll write up a mini-review.

Can't say that put a pleasant image in my head.

Sounds great...once we get you're thoughts on the system we might post about it on the blog. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear what you have to say...if you manage to remove your hands from the controller. O0

Well, right now I'm waiting for a game from Gamefly, and I ordered a Blu-ray movie (Mission Impossible 3) to try out. I decided not to get Borat on Blu-ray, although I can't wait for the DVD! I started writing the review and I'll take some more photos and hopefully have it up by Monday at the latest. The movie is supposed to arrive by Jan 17 so I won't be including that in the review. The movie shipped today. Should be here by Tuesday at the latest so I'll wait until I watch it to add that to the review (the quality and stuff).
