The most read and commented post on my blog has been the Firefox 2.0: Close Tab Buttons: http://ffextensionguru.wordpress.com/2006/10/22/firefox-20-close-tab-buttons/. Most of the people who have commented did not like having the close button on every tab.  However when I posed this question in a poll on the Go Firefox! Forum: http://forums.delphiforums.com/gofirefox/messages?msg=1821.1, the majority of the folks there liked having the close tab button on every tab.  So, what's your preference?

I'm actually in between of most people. I don't like having it on every tab because I find myself accidentally closing things that I don't want to. I know that there is an "undo closed tab" operation but I close them so frequently that it gets annoying having to keep doing that.

However, I hated the pre-Firefox 2 method of having the closed button all the way to the right side. So I have my Firefox setup to only display the close button on the tab that is currently selected. This is perfect for me.

Same here, I found myself closing the tab I didn't want to, just when I clicked too close to the button.  I set it up as well for the current tab only.  The biggest gripe I have heard on this change was there is no option (other than the tweak) to change this.  It amazes me that post is my most read, second I think was removing the 'Go' Button.

I will never now what is the point of that button since the middle mouse button closes a tab, i mean isn't it easier to locate the tab and click on it rather than finding the little button and than clicking?

On every tab for me. It takes too much time to first click on a tab to activate it, and then to close it; especially if I have a bunch of tabs up.

I had even added the Tab X extension when I was still using 1.5, but after a while I got tired of accidentally closing the wrong tab.  Just as Ryan said, I could undo close tab but that was pain, especially if I closed multiple tabs.  Side note: don't forget you can select from a list of Recently Closed Tabs via the history menu.

Ctrl W. It's the future. I live in a world of keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl Tab to change tab and Ctrl Shift T, undo close tab. Its awesome

Back in the day of Firefox 1.5 I used Tab Mix Plus and had it setup to double-click on a tab to close it. Much like Nogg3r5 I am addicted to the Ctrl+W shortcut...so much so that my fingers naturally rest on those keys.

Thx for pointing that out, well i guess it is useful after all. ffextensionguru the tabs should close (by default they do) when clicking with middle mouse button. Anyways I'm actually using the Mouse Gestures for closing tabs, click and a little pull down and the tab is closed, for me this is the fastest way for closing tabs.

I have it set so if the tab is over a set length (something like 70 pixels) then the x is on each tab. Then when there are so many tabs that each is less than 70 pixels, the x is only on the active tab. Found the tip on Lifehacker.
