Best Windows MP3 Player
« on: October 13, 2007, 12:49:44 PM »
I am asking for everyone's help so I can figure out what MP3 Player to use with Windows Vista.  I am posting in the Freeware/Open Source, however, I do not mind paying for great software.

Now a couple things first...
1.  I bought MusicMatch Jukebox and have free upgrades for life.  I loved MusicMatch Jukebox until they updated a little while ago.  The program is now so bloated and slow, which makes it crap!.
2.  I used to use Winamp before MusicMatch Jukebox and loved it.  I am thinking of going back to it.  I am currently downloading and installing it to test it out as I have not used it in years.

Ok, so please give me your recommendations.  :)

I've been using WinAmp since 1999 and they made vast improvements with new version.  But consider I don't expect anything real fancy, as long as a good library manager and it plays my media without issue.

I'd have to say go with Winamp.  Personally, I use Foobar2000, because I love how stripped-down, customizable and fast it is, but Winamp is much more like Musicmatch Jukebox.  You also might want to check out Songbird.  It's both a media player and a "media web browser".  In terms of interface, it is similar to Musicmatch, Winamp and iTunes.  If you're curious, by all means check it out.  The last time I used it, it was pretty buggy and I found it almost unusable, but that was about a year ago, and I'm sure it has improved since then.  (As a side note, with extensions you can also use it to sync with your iPod, or any pretty much any MP3 player for that matter.)

I use MediaMonkey and I love it. In addition to being a fine player it is great to handle and organize your library of songs. It has powerful tagging abilities and is expandable with scripts. There is a great user forum to pick up tips or ask questions. I purchased the gold addition which is $20 I think, but there is a free addition that has most of the paid abilities. It also works with most portable players.

I haven't tried out MediaMonkey myself, but I've heard A LOT of great things about it. Personally Winamp has been my player of choice.

Yup, that's what you get when big companies buy out small software companies... :(

Psst... you can still download older versions of MusicMatch Jukebox over here.

Oh how I love Winamp's slogan. It wouldn't be the same without that playing after a fresh install. ;)

Yes, that is so cool!  It would be cool to know how they came up with that.

Found this in Winamp's FAQ:

Why does Winamp whip the Llama's ass?

There have been many rumors and myths about why Winamp whips the Llama's ass. This is just one of the universe's questions that will never get answered... ;)

Interesting...

The slogan of the music software program Winamp, "Winamp, it really whips the Llama's ass", was inspired by [Wesley] Willis' song "Whip the Llama's Ass" from his album Guitar Rock of Ages.

I have his greatest hits album but it doesn't have that song on it.  If you can find any of his music that is probably what the song sounds like, they all tend to be the same song for the most part with different lyrics.  I actually got to see Wesley Willis at in Iowa City years ago.  He refused to start the show until about 6 or 7 people from the audience went up on stage and butted him in the head.  The strangest show I have ever attended.

From Rock and Roll Mcdonald's

"Rock over London
Rock on Chicago
Wheaties the breakfast of champions"
